World Indigenous Cancer Conference '19

Why Attend WICC 2019 ?

WICC 2019 - The 2nd World Indigenous Cancer Conference is dedicated to focusing on cancer among Indigenous populations globally. The conference will take place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from September 17-19, 2019.

WICC 2019 is a multidisciplinary gathering of researchers, allied health professionals, advocacy groups, Indigenous Elders/Knowledge Holders, traditional practitioners and community groups, and leaders from around the world to discuss innovations and advancements in cancer research with Indigenous peoples. Theme of the WICC 2019 is ‘Respect, Reconciliation, and Reciprocity: Connecting Across Knowledge Systems’.

The conference aims to provide a forum for sharing new insights and improvements in cancer research with Indigenous people globally since WICC 2016. Events will focus on the critical challenges of improving cancer outcomes among Indigenous peoples. Additionally, cultural programming and opportunities for land-based learning will ground the events and activities of the conference in Indigenous perspectives and understandings of health and wellness.

WICC 2019 is a collaborative partnership with the Canadian Indigenous Research Network Against Cancer and host sponsor Alberta Health Services. These events are supported by the Alberta First Nations Information Governance Centre, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canadian Partnership Against Cancer and the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
